The Dada Calendar Artwork
1990-2011

Steven John Koeppe began making Dada Calendars sometime in the late eighties. The first one used his telephoto photograph of a backlit wave crest. In 1990, Koeppe made the first calendar featuring his artwork. It was printed on two separate 12"x16"sheets with the calendar itself running along the bottom. Three years passed until he made another. Since 1994, he has produced and distributed a new calendar every year. What follows is a chronilogical presentation of the 19 paintings featured on the Dada Calendars. To skip to this year's calendar artwork, click here. (You can move back from 2011 if you like:-)

1990 Dada Calendar Art

Ocean Park Pier, 1926

by Steven John Koeppe - Acrylic on canvas, 24"x72" - 1989

This painting was inspired an old panoramic view north from Ocean Front Walk and Rose Avenue in 1926. The best part of painting it was picking out colors of buildings. A few seniors tell me that the umbrellas were almost always either black or faded to grey. It seems strange today that people would go to such extremes covering themselves at the beach. Then again, they didn't have any sunblock and damaging exposure to sunlight has proven quite the hazard.
